About the Founder

My name is Geré Johnson and I'm the creator of this Urban Garden and Farm Directory. Born and raised in Philadelphia (originally Lenni Lenape land), family and food have always been of most importance to me. Like many other people of color, I was raised in a food desert so I wasn't able to eat as healthy as I should have but now I'm giving everyone the chance to be healthier while supporting local black and brown-owned businesses with this directory.

Continuously being updated.

Urban Gardens and Farms

All of these farms and gardens use one or more ecologically sustainable practices such as little to no tillage, no pesticides, companion planting, integrated pest management, etc.
If you know of a garden or farm that you would like for me to include, contact me at the email provided.

The Urban Creators is a North Philly based collaborative, that fuses food, art, and political education as tools to nurture self-determination and equity in their neighborhood. Life Do Grow is a 2-acre urban farm, neighborhood sanctuary, and public space for radical self-expression, exploration, and creation.  They produce a wide range of organic produce and medicinal herbs on 1/2 an acre of growing space, and utilize the rest of the land for educational and artistic programming, as well as public community space. Life Do Grow is also an entirely off-grid space, where they collect all of our own rain water, and generate their energy from solar panels.

Their current open hours are Monday-Thursday, 8am-1pm

Location: 2315 N 11th St. Philadelphia, Pa. 19133
